On Saturday, February 22nd I made a new history of my own: I painted live in a hockey game in honor of the Ontario Reign Black Heritage Night celebration. It was such a surreal experience to paint live in-game while interacting with fans as they watched the painting come to life. I painted the first black line in pro hockey since the 1940’s and the painted was auctioned with proceeds going to Black Girl Hockey Club. I had no idea how the painting would turn out and I just went with the flow and what felt natural. I arrived with a sketch and trusted that I would create something that I would be proud of and I did. In hindsight, it seems like all of the painting in coffee shops all around LA since I moved here was preparation for this experience. A reminder that there are no coincidences, everything is connected.
This opportunity wouldn’t have been possible without Kaylee Nuñez and the marketing staff at the Reign for trusting my talent and vision. My heart is so full of gratitude!
For the occasion, I also painted a unique black history theme mini canvas that I am wearing as a brooch. This is the wearable art I shared with you in a previous newsletter. More to come on how you can get your hands on your own. For now, it is for your viewing pleasure, only!
