Kristi Yamaguchi is an American former figure skater. In ladies' singles, Yamaguchi is the 1992 Olympic champion, a two-time World champion, and the 1992 U.S. champion. In 1992, she became the first Asian American woman to win a gold medal in a Winter Olympic competition. After her professional skating career, Yamaguchi established the Always Dream Foundation for children, aiming to provide funding for after-school programs. In 2018, Yamaguchi was inducted into both the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame and the World Skating Hall of Fame and tabbed the Jesse Owens Olympic Spirit Award winner.
“Kristi’s historic feat transcended her beyond the sport. I knew who she was before I really know who she was having been named dropped in songs and pop culture. This year marks 30 years since Kristi’s historic Olympic gold medal performance and I wanted to pay homage to that iconic feat and highlight some of the great work she’s been doing off the ice with her foundation.”
