Inspired by some of the crisis of events occuring in Africa. With this piece, my aim was to capture and bring to life some of the issues that plague the continent of Africa. There is too many to capture on one canvas and these are just a few. As an Ivorian living in America, there’s often a disconnect because I am so physically far removed from the everyday life of my people. I don’t get to experience their joy, their pain, their fears and their dreams in person. I read about them and hear from cousins, aunts and uncles back home when I call but that’s about the scope of my connection. I hoped to capture their humanity, their beauty, their perseverance and their fight to be seen on a world stage when often times their issues aren’t broadcasted for the world to see because no one cares to read about a shit hole continent and its problems. The same continent that gave birth to humanity as we know it. Each phrase you see works as an hashtag that you search for and learn more about. This is about global citizenship, being a part of the solution and generation that cares about equality and equity for all no matter who you are and where you come from. See why the Motherland cries.
